This individual will work closely with colleagues across the section to contribute to improving processes, practices, systems, and tools to ensure they are equitable, transparent, and efficient, support the strategic objectives of the organization and promote its vision, mission, and values.

    Amnesty International Canada is seeking an individual that has a proven track record and excellence in fundraising and individual giving strategies and implementation. The successful candidate will have a strong background in creating strategies that drive growth in income, managing and analyzing data, offering strategic data-driven recommendations, coaching, and leading a team, and viewing problems as opportunities for creative solutions and innovation. Experience in the non-profit sector, human rights and anti-racism, and anti-oppression capabilities are an advantage.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Fundraising, the Manager of Annual Giving & Donor Relations creates and executes the annual giving program and donor relations strategy to help grow AICES’s support and ensure its viability. They will proactively develop positive and productive relationships with existing and potential donors. This role is responsible for overseeing the fundraising activities and staff in three key programs: Annual Giving, Legacy and Supporter Services. Annual Giving and the Legacy Giving programs combined provide more than $3 million annually. Supporter services ensure that donor/member response systems and processes are of the highest possible standard. You will not only provide leadership to these programs, and ensure that our ambitious targets are met, but work to maintain high caliber donor response processes and systems.

    Scope & Dimension

    FY2021-22 Overall Fundraising Goal: $15 Million

    FY2021-22 Annual Giving Goal: $ 1.150 Million

    FY2021-22 Legacy Giving Goal: $ 2 Million

    The Manager of Annual Giving, Legacy Giving & Donor Relations will have direct staff management responsibility for four (4) staff in Annual Giving, Legacy Giving and Supporter services. The Manager will provide direction and leadership to these positions and have accountability for the overall performance of the department. The Manager is also responsible for approving annual professional development activities of direct staff and providing input into annual compensation and performance merit increase decisions.

    This role is a key part of both the Fundraising management team, and the organizational management team, working collaboratively across the organization.

    – Strategic leadership for all aspects of the Annual Giving, Legacy Giving, and Supporter Services programs, including the maintenance of planning, accountability and fiscal responsibility for the budget
    – Create annual budgets for income and expenditures including tracking progress, creating reports, and considering the appropriate balance of investment in testing new initiatives and in the various ongoing activities
    – Liaise with colleagues to improve systems, and processes and ensure excellence, equity, and transparency in our donor communications and processing systems
    – Collaborate with the appropriate communications staff to develop all fundraising messages and associated resources including annual impact reports, newsletters, e-newsletters etc.;
    – Liaise with colleagues in Finance and Administration in matters related to budgeting, calendarization of revenue and expenses, assignment of account numbers, and other items of mutual relevance
    – Provide leadership to the staff including coaching, mentorship, and performance discussions that support learning and professional development
    – Proactively identify, communicate and manage people issues (performance, behavioural, personal, etc.) and, in collaboration with Human Resources and using progressive discipline, if necessary, work with the employee to bring forward solutions; providing regular, timely and specific feedback on the quality of work completed

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CANDIDATE

    Amnesty International Canada is seeking an individual who can contribute to the diversity of Amnesty’s workforce and its inclusive, anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices. The successful candidate will be an established leader in annual giving, legacy giving, supporter services with strong skills in people management that will assist in increasing our fundraising revenues and a positive supporters journey to carry out our human rights work.

    SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES:

    – Minimum 5-7 years of fundraising experience with demonstrated achievement and leadership in key aspects of fund development, especially developing annual giving programs and public engagement strategies; donor relations and communications; measuring performance.
    – 2-3 years of people management experience that must include knowledge of goal setting, motivating, leading, evaluating and developing a capable team of professionals particularly dealing constructively within conflict
    – Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred with university degree from accredited post-secondary institution as an asset. Candidate can be working towards either of these.
    – Demonstrated ability to think strategically and create long-term and annual fundraising plans to drive growth in terms of income and donor numbers
    – Experience collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including agency partners and members of the senior leadership team
    – Knowledge of best practices in terms of managing and analyzing data in fundraising Customer Relationship Management systems and leveraging this data to create strategies to grow income
    – Proven financial experience including creating and tracking income budgets, experience working with vendors
    – Excellent communication skills, ability to advise, effectively engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
    – Knowledge, training, and experience in anti-racism, anti-oppression, anti-Black racism, anti-discrimination, and decolonizing practices
    – Strong project management and organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines
    – Proven skills in problem-solving, consultation, and negotiating with staff at all levels as well as highly discreet in managing sensitive matters
    – Ability to work successfully with a diverse population and in applying anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles using an intersectional lens
    – Commitment to self-development in the principles of anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion
