We are seeking an Service Engineer to join our lean and agile team in our Burnaby BC facility, located at 8057 N Fraser Way, Burnaby BC. The Service Engineer is responsible for working with a wide variety of data and systems, and to enable dealership technicians around the globe to successfully troubleshoot and service customer vehicles.
Duties & Responsibilities:

• Comprehends manufacturing data and engineering releases to deliver the correct content for each unique vehicle.
• Research and determine service programming support for assigned vehicles by utilizing corporate databases to obtain information necessary to populate Service Database Software. Some databases include: Engineering Change Management, Spare Parts Portal, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, and Service Portal.
• Information gathering and research from various resources to derive New Vehicle Support Requirements; Sources include Diagnostic Specifications, CANBUS, Automotive Service Technician (AST) Foundation.
• Build authoring content for required vehicle systems support of vehicle navigation, communication, programming methods and control functions within Service Portal.
• Work with gathered information and query tools such as SQL to update the Service Portal database with control module data, software and calibrations based on engineering release direction
• Identify and author appropriate pre and post programming instructions to assist technician in completing successful programming event
• Validate vehicle communication and module programming for new vehicle launches
• Development and validation of setup and learn procedures related to service programming
• Work with Design Engineers, Field Quality and other teams to resolve vehicle programming/setup related issues
• Provide technical support with the Automotive Technician Training Program
• Create and support the creation and maintenance of service instructions
• Performs research, testing, data gathering, measurements, or engineering analysis in an office, laboratory or manufacturing environment. Incumbents routinely handle complex engineering assignments and participate as strong contributors on cross-functional teams.
• Performs engineering support on complex projects or technical assignments.
• Support program management activities for related product development through manufacturing launches.
• Required to lead projects or assignments of significant scope without supervision unless issues require escalation to a management level. Designs tests or experiments to support project targets.
• Independently experiments, compiles data and analyzes results. Makes recommendations for project or team review.
• Testing and analysis must comply with IATF and ISO procedures.
• Understand modifications made to vehicles by customers and provide technical feedback
• Analyze data recorded by the on-board telematics unit to detect issues in the field and be prepared to troubleshoot customer vehicles promptly.
• Define service-related requirements for each vehicle platform development

Service Operations

• Assist tech-line customer support functions in resolving dealership technician reprogramming issues
• Support Service Portal readiness for product launches, field actions, and Engineering Change actions.
• Prioritize work to meet data delivery schedule
• Support special projects related to Service Programming

Spare Parts Engineering

• Work with design engineers to ensure ease of serviceability in order to ensure long component product life and minimize future warranty costs

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering field, or equivalent experience in an analytical or diagnostic position.
• High level oral and written communication skills, as well as analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
• Strong interpersonal skills involving ability to work effectively cross-functionally and cross-culturally.
• Ability to function with limited direction, or in autonomous situations
• Team Player and strong attention to detail.
• Strong Knowledge of vehicle systems – working technical knowledge with prior automotive service, controls engineering, mechanical engineering and/or software engineering experience (preferred)
• Knowledge and understanding of:
• Engineering Release systems
• Diagnostic test modes/services and messages used for vehicle diagnostics and reprogramming
• Serial data communications and monitoring tools for all vehicle protocols. (preferred)
• A minimum of two years of related work experience required in an engineering, automotive, or manufacturing environment; experience in electric vehicle an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of project management techniques and working with programs from concept to production.
• Knowledge of automotive industry standards and procedures strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Project, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work online with teams in digital workspace
