Job Description

  • PEAK RENEWABLESGeneral AccountantPeak Renewables was created to partner with BC communities and First Nations to make sustainable, renewable products by repurposing legacy industrial sites and tapping marginalized trees and forest residuals. The Peak Renewables project portfolio includes initiatives in lumber, oriented strand board (OSB), wood pellets and hydrogen. Peak Renewables operates from a variety of locations including Fort Nelson, Vavenby, Isle Pierre, and Mackenzie, BC as well as Prince Albert, SK, with our Head Office located in Vancouver, BC.

    The position of General Accountant will be located in our Head Office in Vancouver, BC.

    Under the direction of the Controller / CFO, the General Accountant is responsible for various accounting activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger while adhering to company policies, guidelines, and standards within the accounting department.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepares for month end and perform month end accounting.
    • Prepares monthly financial statements, including all related journal vouchers, reconciliation’s, financial schedules, and other reports as necessary.
    • Prepares profit and loss statements and monthly closing.
    • Variance analysis of departmental costs of actuals versus budget
    • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions as needed
    • Analyzes revenue and expenditure trends and recommends appropriate budget levels and ensure expenditure control.
    • Resolves accounting discrepancies.
    • Analyzes and reviews budgets and expenditures Capex, Operation etc.
    • Prepares and reviews budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents.
    • Oversees Project Budget tracking
    • Interacts with external auditors in completing audits
    • Maintains filing system
    • Assists Controller/CFO with review of financial accounting procedures and makes recommendations for improvement.

    Experience

    • Post-secondary education such as undergraduate degree or college diploma combined with a professional accounting designation.
    • At least 3 years of progressive and relevant experience in accounting operations
    • A proficient level of professional skill and/or knowledge in accounting standards and processes and strong ASPE/GAAP and/or IFRS knowledge
    • Experience with QBO is a must
    • Advanced working knowledge of Excel and strong database skills
    • Strong financial acumen and analytical agility
    • Detail oriented, organized and able to meet tight deadlines
    • Self-motivated, results driven, prefers to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
    • Proven prioritization, time management and project management skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build lasting relationships
    • Demonstrated ability to act with high standards and integrity at all times
    • Possesses situational awareness of surroundings with the ability to adapt to new and changing environments, who can relate well at all levels
    • A high sense of urgency with regards to moving projects forward and making operational improvements; action and goal oriented
    • Adaptable and understands a complex and constantly changing business environment. Able to keep pace with a company going through significant growth and change.
