    Work environment

    The Northwest Territories Regional Office (NWTRO) is responsible for the prosecution of all federal offences in the NWT. The regional headquarters is located in Yellowknife. Communities throughout the NWT are served by circuit in both the Territorial and Supreme Court and prosecutors travel by air to some 20 communities and by road to one community.

    The NWTRO prosecutes Criminal Code offences, in addition to offences under other federal statutes typically prosecuted by the PPSC. The caseload of the regional office includes a high number of personal injury offences, including homicide cases, aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm or with a weapon. The region actively reviews the files of high risk offenders and applies in appropriate cases for dangerous or long-term offender status following conviction.

    The Nunavut Regional Office of the Public Prosecution Service of Canada is located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. In addition to Drug and regulatory offences, we prosecute Criminal Code and territorial offences in each of Nunavut’s 25 remote communities. Our satellite office in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, covers the Western Nunavut communities.

    The Nunavut Regional Office (NRO) is responsible for federal prosecutions in the territory of Nunavut. The regional headquarters is located in Iqaluit, and there is a local office in Yellowknife, which covers the Western Nunavut Region.

    The NRO deals primarily with Criminal Code offences, including homicide and sexual and personal injury offences. It also handles regulatory, drug-related, and territorial offence prosecutions.

    Intent of the process

    This inventory may be used to staff various administrative and clerical roles, including the following:

    Administrative Clerk (CR-05): Administrative Clerks are responsible for opening files for court proceedings. They are also responsible for pulling, locating, and preparing files for court; as well as liaising with various stakeholders for information.

    Travel Coordinator (CR-05): The Travel Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and booking all court related travel for the Yukon Regional Office. They prepare travel claims for submission and are the point of contact for any travel disruptions.

    Legal Assistant (CR-05): Legal Assistants provide support to PPSC Prosecutors by organizing and distributing disclosure, requesting documents from the court and organizing prosecution files. Legal Assistants also help prepare files for trial and sentencing, review court dockets to pull files for court and input case status into the PPSC database.
