Reports to: Aquatic Programs Manager, Aquatic Programs Coordinator & Aquatic Shift Leaders

Shifts we are looking to fill:

• Sundays 8am-3pm
• Mondays 12pm-5pm & 4pm-8pm
• Tuesdays 4pm-8pm
• Wednesdays 4pm-7pm

What You’ll Do:

• Teach the Lifesaving Society and other MNP Community & Sport Centre Aquatic programs in a safe and effective manner.
• Teach a minimum of two lesson sets per session for the first year of their employment and at least one set in following years.
• Maintain current certifications.
• Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
• Maintain a high standard of customer engagement.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled in-services.
• Attend and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports and administration.
• Handle or refer programs and situations as they arise in the facility.
• Maintain a level of fitness necessary to fulfill the practical elements of instructing.
• Develop and integrate new, unique and innovative ideas, teaching methods and games through the use of internal and external resources.
• Teach the Lifesaving Society and other MNP Community & Sport Centre Aquatic programs in a safe and effective manner.
• Assist in planning, and instructing Aquatic Program special event days.
• Responsible for keeping participants together and prepared to evacuate in case of a medical emergency.
• Submit availability quarterly by the designated deadline.
• Instruct lessons a minimum of two three hour shifts per week.
• Complete Aquatic Instructor Training Program before first teaching shift.
• Work closely with the Aquatic Program Manager/Coordinator/Aquatic Shift Leaders with development of Aquatic Programs short term and long term.

What You Need:

• A strong work ethic and initiative relating to continuous improvement.
• Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification (current) required.
• CPR C (recertified within one year) and Standard First Aid (recertified within 2 years) required.
• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (current) required.
• National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 1 or higher is an asset.
• Standard First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor, and Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Trainer Certifications are an asset.
• Demonstrated leadership capacity.
• Knowledge of Aquatic sports and programs.
• Excellent customer engagement, communication, problem solving, judgment, skill in the application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques, and the ability to deal with conflict diplomatically will help ensure your success
• Your proven track record working independently and in a team environment is an asset. Experience with competitive lifeguarding/lifesaving an asset.
• Dedicated and reliable with a strong commitment to teamwork.
• Strong public relations and excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• A high sense of urgency, ability to think clearly while handling multiple priorities in emergency situations.
