Job Description

  • About the Richmond Food Bank

    The Richmond Food Bank Society provides nutritious food and related support to sustain health and well-being. Each week, our volunteers offer an array of fresh produce and other grocery items to over 1800 individuals across several locations across Richmond. We offer School Food programs to address hunger among students, a Home Delivery program, a Garden Program, and connect our clients to outreach workers and community resources.

    The Richmond Food Bank is also a sharing hub for food and supplies to community meals, shelters, and other social service agencies that serve low-income and marginalized people.

    About the Role

    Each Board of Director is legally responsible to safeguard the interests of the Society and ensure that its mission and purpose is adequately fulfilled. RFBS maintains a comprehensive insurance policy with $5 million Commercial and General liability insurance and a $2 million Directors and Officer’s liability insurance.

    Specific Responsibilities

    • Regularly attend monthly board meetings (evenings of the third Wednesday of each month except July, August and December)
    • Review the and approve the organization’s annual budget, strategic plan and monthly financial statements
    • Assist in drafting policies that aim at strengthening the organization’s strategies and operations
    • Participate on board committees
    • Fulfill such other board assignments as appropriate and needed

    Requirements

    • Able to attend monthly board meetings. May also need to actively participate and attend any committee meetings as needed
    • A firm believer of food being a basic human right
    • Committed to social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion

    Assets

    • Knowledge and understanding of the food security scene in Richmond
    • Expertise in areas such as Human Resource Management, Law, Public Health, Communications, Finance, Risk Management, Fundraising , Community Development and/or Advocacy.
    • Experience using One Drive or Google Drive
