Job Description

  • Samfiru Tumarkin LLP is a busy and fast-growing litigation firm with offices in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. Our lawyers specialize in employment law, as well as personal injury and disability law.We are looking for a full-time Disability/Personal Injury legal assistant with at least 5+ years of experience in disability and/or personal injury, as well as extensive knowledge of the civil litigation process, including the Rules of Civil Procedure, at the Ontario Superior Court and Small Claims Court levels. Experience in personal injury or disability law is required.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    · experience managing a senior lawyer’s busy practice (100+ files);

    · the ability to keep a file moving (from any and all of the above provinces) in terms of scheduling relevant proceedings with minimal guidance;

    · superb written and verbal communication skills;

    · excellent attention to detail;

    · keen organizational ability, including keeping an overview of the files and their current status;

    · flexibility to work independently or as part of a team; and

    · the ability to prioritize and meet urgent deadlines.

    Some of the tasks that you would be responsible for include, but are not limited to, the following:

    · Preparing court documents to be filed and served;

    · Filing of court documents;

    · Booking mediations, examinations, pre-trials, etc.;

    · Gathering of necessary schedule “A” productions from the client and third parties;

    · Review of file to assess additional documentation that may be required;

    · Drafting correspondence and forwarding same to opposing counsel, clients etc.;

    · Booking calls for the lawyers;

    · Serving documents on opposing counsel[PT1] ;

    · Billing and processing files for trust instructions

    We are looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable, responsive, eager to learn, and enjoys a high volume and fast-paced environment. The right candidate will be someone who can assist with all administrative duties from filing and handling trust transactions to billing, and is also very familiar with scheduling mediations, examinations, and pre-trials.

    Samfiru Tumarkin LLP is currently working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The firm and its employees will return to the office at a future date. As a requirement for remote working, you will need:

    • A personal computer, whether Windows- or Mac-based;
    • A phone;
    • A home internet connection; and,
    • Headphones
